Last night, as I waited at the baggage carousel in Toronto, I struck up a conversation with a lady from Ottawa. She hadn’t been to the BlogHer conference, but she’d certainly become aware of it whilst in San Diego (it’s hard to miss 3, 600 she-bloggers, all madly snapping photos and hunched over iPhones).
“I’ve been thinking about starting my own blog…” she said.
I won’t disclose her idea (it wasn’t stalking-the-prime-minister.blogspot.com), but it was good. I hope our little conversation inspired her to get started TODAY.
That’s the thing about interacting with a swarm of other bloggers – you realize that:
a) there’s room for everyone on the internet
b) we all start from scratch and have doubts
c) www.stalking-the-prime-minister.blogspot.com is still available
Whether you’re teetering on the edge of starting your own blog, or you’re just cruisin’ for some new reads, I want to introduce you to seven inspiring women I met at the conference. They’re each doing something completely different, which just goes to show you don’t have to follow any formula. So, seriously, go ahead and start that blog dedicated solely to hummus.
Katherine and Flannery Good – www.fashionablybombed.com
They live in: Fresno, California
I noticed them because: These sisters are like the human version of a candy store, not to mention Legally Blonde meets Sex and The City. They’re utterly over the top and I love them for brightening up our world.
What they blog about: Fashion and cocktails. Their site pops just like their lipstick. Go there!

Kath Younger - www.katheats.com
She lives in: Charlottesville, Virginia
I noticed her because: A Facebook friend embedded her instructional video on making oatmeal on their feed a couple of years ago. I saw it and followed the link to her blog. I recognized her at the conference and we briefly chatted – she came across as a really nice person. A good lesson for bloggers: always, always, always represent yourself well in public.
What she blogs about: Eating “real food” (which we could all use more of), healthy living and balance.

Carrie Lundell - www.thismamamakesstuff.com
She lives in: Orange County, California
I noticed her because: She had the best business card at the conference:
What she blogs about: Refashioning things like t-shirts, hankies and pants into cute baby/childrens clothing. Ever wonder what to do with your old Gwar concert shirt? Try Carrie’s “Rockin’ Baby Gown with Hand Flaps” project. How she finds the time to do this stuff and look beautiful with FOUR kids is beyond me.
Alicia McCauley - www.pedalsandpencils.wordpress.com
She lives in: Redding, California
I noticed her because: She was wearing this superb bike necklace:

What she blogs about: Cycling and writing.
Kasey Trenum and Jamie Miles - www.time2saveworkshops.com
They live in: Cleveland, Tennessee
I noticed them because: They’re every bit as friendly as they look in their photos.
What they blog about: Coupon clipping and saving money on your grocery bill.
