When I think of Christmas, two themes dominate : food and family.
(Well, those and my bank balance but that’s not very festive so let’s just hide that under the carpet and concentrate on the warm fuzzy stuff.)
In keeping with the food angle, I’m excited to announce that my holiday recipe contest starts NOW!
I want you to send me your favourite holiday recipe. I don’t care if it’s cookies, a creative treatment of brussels sprouts or a cocktail, I just want to know that it came from your heart (awww). If you’ve found it amongst your grandma’s old recipe scrapbook, all the better (super awww). Let’s embrace family traditions!
If your recipe catches my eye, I’ll make it myself and present it a la Gaudy Green Retro Cake.
The winning recipes will be blogged on December 16, 23 and 30.
And because the holidays are also about giving, I will shower the winners with a copy of Christmas with Gordon, Gordon Ramsay’s holiday cookbook. Oh, I know he’s a hotheaded swear-monger, but I recently watched five seasons of the U.K. Kitchen Nightmares and developed quite the soft spot for Gordo. And his Christmas Cookbook is very nice and simple, featuring five complete “menus.”

Awesome! I’m looking forward to seeing which recipes you choose.
Does bread sauce count? (There is still a lot of missionary work to be done this side of the pond.)
This is a recipe from my Great Aunt Shirley. During the holidays with so many tempting treats you want to ensure you get your veggies in and what better way than do use Aunt Shirley’s Awesome Quick’n & East Shrimp Dip:
In blender whip together:
1 8 oz cream cheese
