Ab-zorbing a New Sport

Zorbing At Horseshoe Resort In Canada
Need a break from the rat race? Why not release some tension in a hamster ball? Starting July 1, you can do so at Horseshoe Resort's new Adventure Park, site of Canada's first fully operational Zorb park (and the only Zorbing in Ontario). It's an adrenaline-fueled sport in which a person is encased in a rubberized sphere. The resort will offer two versions of Zorbing: water (sliding around freely in a shallow pool of water) and harness (rolling downhill while strapped securely inside the sphere). The park, which is just north of Barrie, is also unveiling southern Ontario's longest zipline, a summer tubing course, a skateboard park, a downhill mountain-biking area and a climbing wall. For more information, visit www.horseshoeresort.com or call 1-800-461-5627.

Royalty-Free Music, Why the Heck Not?

Picture 4
Since I started making videos a couple of years ago, I’ve struggled with finding royalty-free tunes to use as background music. I WANT to just throw up pop songs, but YouTube has an automatic scanner that busts you and occasionally mutes your entire video.

Therefore, for many of my videos, I’ve painstakingly composed my own songs using GarageBand. Because it’s so hard to find songs, I thought I’d offer my original music to anyone who is making their own videos.

Feel free to download any of the
files I’ve posted on this page. I’d appreciate a credit and or/a link if you do end up using them. Happy video-making, folks!

Something for your App-etite

GateGuru app helps you navigate airport services
You’re in the airport and you have the urge to spend a toonie on a bagel (okay, a ten dollar bill – let’s be realistic here), but all you can see is washrooms, moving walkways and other tourists desperately trying to spend money on overpriced merchandise. Prior to the iPhone and the advent of the word “app,” this situation would have been frustrating indeed. But these days all you have to do is launch GateGuru, a free application that acts as an instant info centre for 100 airports, including 14 in Canada. In addition to mapping important locations such as security, gates and baggage claim, the application answers those really important questions, like: “what are the odds of getting food poisoning from Jet Fuel Buffet in Terminal 4?” (Well, you won’t get actual statistics on food poisoning, but you can tap into other travellers’ reviews, which is the next best thing.)
For more information and downloading instructions for  GateGuru, visit www.gateguruapp.com.

Three New Ed and Jenny Episodes

I just realized that I have failed to post the last three “Ed and Jenny” episodes on this site. If you’re new to these, it’s an animated comedy series I’m working on with Billy Reid, produced by 2: The Source for Couples.
So without further ado...

Tootie the Cutie

Miss Elizabeth Little waves goodbye to guests
Citizen
BY REB STEVENSON
QUALICUM BEACH, B.C. – The year was 1943, and newlyweds Jeanne and Bruce Box were looking for a sweet little getaway.
They heard about St. Andrews Lodge and Glen Cottages on Vancouver Island, a family-run guesthouse by the sea. It sounded nice so they booked it – via telegram, naturally.
Since then, they’ve gone back to that selfsame spot every single year. Put simply: 67 years straight.
“We treated it as the poor man’s Hawaii,” says Bruce, from his North Vancouver home.
The Boxes are both turning 90 this year. But is that stopping them from renting their favourite one bedroom cottage for four weeks this summer? Not a chance.
Old fashioned pastimes at St. Andrews Lodge

It’s easy to see what keeps the couple so spellbound.
Situated along a pretty stretch of the Island Highway, St. Andrews Lodge greets you like a vintage postcard from holidays of yore. It consists of a main lodge building (constructed in 1938) and eight cottages that sprang up between 1939 and 1952.
Anyone who has stayed there will tell you that the biggest component of St. Andrews Lodge is actually something little.
Miss Elizabeth Little, to be precise.

The Big Picture: Saint John, New Brunswick

Old Burying Ground In Saint John, New Brunswick

It was a foggy, sleepy Sunday morning in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada. The dead outnumbered the living - at least in the Old Burying Ground. I spent the morning wandering around downtown, thinking about my grandma who grew up here and never stopped reminiscing about the days on Princess Street. She had red ringlets and doughy dimples and said “oh my land” instead of anything even resembling a swear. Have you ever visited a place with family significance? You ought to. Perhaps memories of a place are embedded in our DNA...RIP Grandma Starr, 1916-2008.

A Taste of...Anguilla

Irad Gumbs owns Hungry

What is it? Hungry’s Lunch Truck
Where is it? The Valley
Describe it? Feasting your eyes on Anguilla’s shocking turquoise beaches is free. Feasting anywhere else will cost you an arm and a leg. The small island off St. Maarten (population: 13, 000) has a reputation for fine – but costly – cuisine. To save a few bucks, do as the locals do and visit Hungry’s Lunch Truck in The Valley. Owner Irad Gumbs, a professional chef, serves a host of Anguillian specialty soups like whelk, conch and pea with pig tail. The humble truck also whips up salads, pastas and quesadillas you won’t find at Taco Bell ... lobster in a tortilla, anyone?
How much? $5 US for a bowl of soup, $14 US for a lobster quesadilla.

My Four Minutes of Fame

Picture 7
I had my first live TV experience on Monday, when I was invited to be a guest on Breakfast Television. It was very exciting and fun (once I got over the notion that I was going to burp into the microphone). I can’t embed the video, but here is a link to the clip for all who are interested (mom).
