Royalty-Free Music, Why the Heck Not?

Picture 4
Since I started making videos a couple of years ago, I’ve struggled with finding royalty-free tunes to use as background music. I WANT to just throw up pop songs, but YouTube has an automatic scanner that busts you and occasionally mutes your entire video.

Therefore, for many of my videos, I’ve painstakingly composed my own songs using GarageBand. Because it’s so hard to find songs, I thought I’d offer my original music to anyone who is making their own videos.

Feel free to download any of the
files I’ve posted on this page. I’d appreciate a credit and or/a link if you do end up using them. Happy video-making, folks!

Something Lovely Under the Mistletoe

TheGoodLovelies_Christmas
If these adorable pictures aren’t enough to make you fall instantly in love with these chicks, just you wait until you hear The Good Lovelies sing. The “flirty bluegrass” trio has just released their Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe, and the sweet harmonies really are both good and lovely. Get this album, I command you (in the nicest way, *smile*)! As they sing classics like Santa Baby, Silent Night and fun stuff like Mele Kalikimaka and Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, Kerri Ough, Sue Passmore and Caroline Brooks will be a welcome addition to any holiday gathering - and they won’t even eat any of your hors d’oeuvres!

IN CANADA, BUY THE ALBUM HERE
IN THE US AND ELSEWHERE, BUY IT HERE

Other news: If you’re in Toronto, you can catch the Good Lovelies’ Christmas CD release party, Dec 6 at Hugh’s Room!

I Stand Corrected!

tunes
Last Saturday, the Ottawa Citizen published my list of Top Ten Travel Tunes. In it, I claimed that Africa by Toto was the only song to successfully incorporate the word “Kilimanjaro” into its lyrics. However, reader Francine Allard has schooled me! ;) Thanks, Francine! Got anything on Mount St. Helens?

Hi Reb,

Hope you are well and enjoying the holidays wherever you may be.  Always enjoy reading your travel articles in the Ottawa Citizen (reminds me of some fabulous places I have had the opportunity to visit).  Read your Ipod Top 10 this week and your number 8 made me smile...love Toto and their song Africa...thought you might like to know of (perhaps add to your Ipod) another Kilimanjaro tune that actually ALSO successfully incorporates the word Kilimanjaro into the Lyrics - it's called, wait for it: Kilimanjaro by Johnny Clegg and Juluka, an incredible group, and the chorus goes a little like this:  I'm sitting on the top of Kilimanjaro, I can see a new tomorrow ... great fun.  (http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/j/juluka/kilimanjaro.html)
Safe travels,
Cheers,

Traveller's Mixed Tape: Song 1

Picture 17Picture 16

Whether I’m sitting on a train watching some foreign landscape whizz by or simply relaxing at home dreaming of my next adventure, there’s nothing quite like a travel tune to set the mood.
Over time, I’ve compiled a fairly comprehensive playlist of songs that should get you bolting straight to a travel agent.
This week: I urge you to download that ultimate ’80s travel anthem, HOLIDAY ROAD by Lindsay Buckingham.
Yes, this is the theme song to the National Lampoon’s Vacation and European Vacation movies, which influenced my life more than I’d care to admit. Who cares if Audrey and Rusty were butt ugly? This song evokes that Chevy Chase signature brand of ignorant bliss.
